CREW Festival

The SCA helps the Glenwood Landing School bring Literacy to Life

Each year, Glenwood Landing kicks-off its month long C.R.E.W. (Curious Readers Enthusiastic Writers) festival with an exciting school-wide assembly. The enjoyable ceremony is filled with songs and a presentation summarizing the educational activities that will take place during the next weeks.

Some exciting traditional events that are planned for C.R.E.W. include:
  • A visit from a special literary guest
  • Buddy Reading & Writing, inter-classes share reading and writing together
  • Guest Readers, a special time when parents and/or family members and friends come to Glenwood Landing School to read to the students
  • Word of the Day, during morning announcements a new word is introduced to the students for them to utilize in conversation and writing of sentences
  • C.R.E.W. Button Contest, a favorite activity where each student participates in drawing the new C.R.E.W. button. During the opening ceremony, the best student buttons from each grade are selected and the children are called up onstage where the school-wide button contest winner is chosen!
While students read and write all year long, the month of C.R.E.W. reinforces these skills by continuing to focus on genres including poetry, fairytales, non-fiction, personal narratives, biographies, memoirs and picture books. Students will also get an opportunity to speak with Glenwood Landing authors, including Dr. Perez and Mr. Slobodskoy, about their respective books. Additionally, many, many library activities take place throughout the month-long festival.

During C.R.E.W., students are challenged to read more books than the year before! A closing ceremony culminates the C.R.E.W. festival with more songs and celebration.

The SCA proudly funds all costs related to the annual CREW Festival; and organizes a sale of the featured author's autographed books, which offsets the expense of this month-long event.
